People don’t run for public office to help anyone but themselves; and they run because the position allows them to use the office for personal gain. The real lure of a position in congress is the rewarding side business that comes with it. From lucrative “speaking engagements”, paid speeches, well paid lobbyist positions and outright bribes, while the country and Constitution are out of sight, on the back burner. The game only rule is to not get caught.
The US congress is the only body, in the entire world, which can challenge and defeat a cesspool when it comes to contents. Anyone can appreciate the videos of congress in session, where honorable members are busy picking their noses and eating the boogers, when not falling asleep in their chairs, listening to their own bullshit.
Members of congress make and amend the laws, which means they decide what is legal and when. Why is it so hard, then, to discern the intricacies of the seriously legalized institutional corruption in the US congress, in the form of bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, parochialism, patronage, influence peddling, graft, and embezzlement? Why is it so hard to prosecute anyone in congress who breaks the laws they enacted?
