The news is out: [A Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputy seen in video kicking an inmate jailed in Cincinnati with a work boot was fired Wednesday.
Sheriff Jim Neil sent a news release Wednesday morning stating Sgt. Jesse Franklin has been terminated. An investigation revealed that Franklin used excessive force by kicking Nicholas Ballachino, who was handcuffed, in the head, according to the release.
Franklin had previously been charged with one count of misdemeanor assault, which is punishable by up to six months in jail. Franklin had worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 14 years.
The inmate, who was kicked in the head on June 9, had previously demanded Franklin be fired over the incident.
Franklin, who was terminated Wednesday has the right to grieve his termination and appeal it to an arbitrator under the collective bargaining agreement, said David Daugherty, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.]
